An Interview with Geoff Thompson Part 2

THE SHOTOKAN WAY - EDITORIAL

Welcome to the first Edition of The Shotokan Way for 2009.

2008 was a superb year for us at The Shotokan Way. It brought Emma and I so much joy being able to share material with you through our online space here. We always wanted to create almost an online community and that is truly what we feel we have created. 2008 brought us such wonderful material and we simply just hope that 2009 has the same amount of fantastic content to parallel 2008. I am currently now looking at the line up for the site from now until May and I can see that we are already off to a very nice start and we are thrilled that you are here with us for the ride.

2008 concluded with the superb first part of an interview with Geoff Thompson, the renown author of books such as ‘Dead or Alive’ and ‘Watch My Back’ and writer of such groundbreaking movies such as ‘Romans 12:20’ and ‘Brown Paper Bag’. Here in this edition we bring to you An Interview with Geoff Thompson Part 2 – where Emma continues to examine the life and experiences of a man that can be described as no less than a fighting genius.

The article in this edition ‘Karate-do in Daily Life’ by Arijit Chakraborty looks at the role of karate not just within the dojo but within all aspects of daily life.

The review of this Edition comes from our experiences with Akihito Isaka from October 2008. For a weekend, Emma and I travelled to North Wales for the 3rd year in a row to train again with this unique pioneer of the ‘slow motion training’. Each year we unearth a fuller understanding of what it is this karateka is working to achieve, and we share with you here the report from this fantastic weekend.

We hope you enjoy this first edition of 2009, and as always feedback is very welcome.
