What is Karate?
Karate is a weaponless self-defense art, in which arms and legs are systematically trained. It is a martial art that develops character through training, thus the karateka will be able to overcome any tangible or intangible obstacle. In traditional karate the physical and mental aspects of this martial art are in balance. If you want to use karate techniques effectively, then the mental aspect even has to play a predominant role. Training means exercising body and mind.
Who are we?
shihan Welcome to the website of the Dutch branch of Shihan Ed Hamile’s West Coast Shoto Kan Karate-Do International.

West Coast Shoto Kan Karate-Do is a traditional Shotokan Karate school in Delft.

Karate is for everyone and any age. In our dojo (karate school) we teach shotokan karate-do to men, women and children from the age of 9 onwards.

Children will be made familiar with karate in a responsible, non-aggressive manner. Karate training is in particularly for children, an excellent method of developing their coordination and physical strength. Furthermore, karate helps to develop self-confidence, discipline and concentration.

For older people karate training is a good way to keep fit and flexible.
The Dutch West Coast Shoto Kan Karate branch was founded in 1982 and is presided over by Sensei André Kila (5th Dan ).
